CD-MRW

CD-MRW (CD Mount Rainier ReWrite) allows CD-RW to be used as a drag-and drop device of choice same as a fl oppy disk. Key features are:

Physical Defect Management by the Drive

The job of handing defects in the media is handled at the source, in the drive. Thus, no longer do we need packet writing applications to communication with the drive and be able to characterize defects with the drive or media. Also, now CD-ROM's will be able to be read back with a generic read-driver, allowing universal compatibility.

Logical write-addressing at 2k

Instead of using large 64kb blocks as is the case in currently CD-RW packet writing and data transfer, Mt. Rainier uses only 2k blocks to improve file-system and caching capabilities of the system to be transparent.

Background formatting

Allows the user to drag and drop data immediately after inserting the CD-RW media. The process of formatting which previously had to be completed prior to writing to a disc, is now handled in the background. Writing data to the drive gets priority over the format process, so a user can write to the disc during the format process.

Early eject
Without waiting the finish of formatting, a user can eject a media. When the media is inserted into the drive, lest of formatting process is activated.

The CRW-F1 is Yamaha's second-generation CD-MRW capable drive, which offers improved access speed and rewriting speed performance for CD-MRW comparing with first generation model of CRW3200.
